Don’t we just love Saturday morning cartoons?! Yes, we do! Now, now don’t pull a face. For almost five decades, Saturday morning cartoons have been a part of a child’s weekend entertainment for generations. Sadly, it seems as though cartoons on Saturdays are no more. According to an article on Gizmodo, TODAY was the first Saturday morning that cartoons did not show up on television, “it’s the end of an era, but it’s been a long time coming: NBC ditched Saturday morning cartoons in 1992, CBS followed suit not long after, and ABC lost its animated weekend mornings in 2004. The CW, a lower-tier broadcast network, was the last holdout in a game that the Big 3 left long ago.” I guess it was just a matter of time. With the rise of cable television, Netflix and the like, cartoons can be seen just about whenever and where ever, making the traditional “Saturday Morning” cartoon slot a dinosaur.
The news makes me rather sad, even if it was inevitable.
Time to go surf YouTube for old episodes of Garfield and Friends, I loved that show as a kid!
