Editing

I understand that if I ever want to take my writing seriously, I must learn how to proofread and edit. Recently, I came across a website called “grammarly” where supposedly it helps you edit documents etc.

I’m curious about it, very curious indeed.
I need help with my writing. I don’t feel like I’m very good at it, and that truly bothers me.

  1. I just tried that website. It says I have a bunch of critical errors in the sample I uploaded, but it won’t give me examples. I’d be hesitant about signing up for something like that without getting any samples. =/

  2. One of the ways I learned to edit was by editing my friends’ essays. It helps if you find essays to edit that are really terrible, because there are so many mistakes that you learn quickly what to look for, lol.

  3. I’ve tried grammarly on a short paragraph that I wrote. I didn’t pay for the service, so I didn’t see the details of its analysis, but it claimed I was guilty of plagiarism and made 3 bad word choices. Since the paragraph was two sentences taken from an email to my sister and contained personal information, it’s hard to know how I could have plagiarized that. I’m generally skeptical of automated grammar checkers.
